Departments

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) was established by combining the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Electronics, and the Department of Computer Science and Communication Engineering in 1996. The three departments have a long history, with the Department of Electrical Engineering going as far back as 1911, the same year Kyushu University was founded. EECS has produced numerous skilled engineers over the past 100 years.
Programs and courses at EECS cover a variety of fields including electrical energy engineering, system control engineering, electronic materials device engineering, communication network engineering, computer engineering, intelligence science, and software engineering, while taking into account the recent progress of the advanced information society. All of this knowledge is essential to create a secure and safer society. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of mathematics and physics in electrical engineering and computer science in the first year to obtain a well rounded education. With three comprehensive courses during the fourth year students gain specialized skills and knowledge.
