About EECS

Welcome to the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). The Department of EECS belongs to the School of Engineering that is one of the undergraduate schools in Kyushu University. The Department was established by combining three departments: the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Electronics, and the Department of Computer Science and Communication Engineering in 1966. 160 students per year can choose one of six courses prepared in the curriculum after 1.5 years of basic and general education. The courses include electrical power engineering, electronic devices, electrical control systems, communication systems, computer engineering, and intelligent systems. After graduating from the 4-years course, most students go to the Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering (ISEE), which has five departments.

Foreword

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) was established by combining three existing departments in 1996: The Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Electronics, and the Department of Computer Science and Communication Engineering. Although these three departments had produced many active talents in industry and academia, EECS has the advantage of producing leading professionals with a comprehensive knowledge of electricity and electronics, as well as information technology. EECS covers a broad area, including electrical power engineering, electronic devices, electrical control systems, communication systems, computer engineering, intelligent systems and software engineering. In order to cover not only common ground knowledge but also expertise on the information science and electrical engineering, three original courses (Electrical and Electronic Engineering Course, Electronic and Communication Engineering Course and Computer Engineering Course) are offered. After graduating from the 4-year course, most students will continue to one of the graduate schools among the Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering (ISEE), Graduate School of Systems Life Sciences, Graduate School of Integrated Frontier Sciences and the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences, in order to acquire further cutting-edge skills in science and technology. Educational staffs in the EECS consist mainly of the faculty members in the Graduate school of information Science and Electrical Engineering.
